CHIRIQUI RIVER RAFTING

Chiriqui Rafting

The rivers we will travel are located in Chiriqui province, six hours from the city. They drain off the Flanks of the Volcan Baru, Panama's highest peak. These are class III and IV rivers. The Chiriqui River, the best rafting place during the May-December rainy season, takes an average of four hours to navigate, while the Chiriqui Viejo River, which is full during the end of December through May, dry season, takes about five hours to descend.

On the Chiriqui River, lunch is served on the riverbanks after the trip, while on the Chiriqui Viejo we'll lunch midway through the descent, near an enchanting waterfall.

Going down these rivers makes for a totally picturesque voyage. Along the Chiriqui Viejo's course you get the opportunity to clearly see the lowlands and coast, both in Panama and in neighboring Costa Rica. The Chiriqui River route lets you appreciate a spectacular view of Volcan Baru's slopes.

During this river journey you'll get to see iguanas, marine jays, kingfishers, howler monkeys, marmosets, falcons and otters. Some river sections run through spectacular canyons with solid rock walls.
