EL VALLE
El Valle is 600 meters above sea level and has a cool and agreeable climate. According to geologists, El Valle (The Valley) is the crater of a volcano and that explains why great quantities of volcanic hills and rocks are found in the area. Here you'll be moved by ecotourist attractions like the impressive El Chorro de las Mozas and El Macho waterfalls. A little way off in the distance you can see the landform known as La India Dormida (the sleeping Indian lady), an inspiration for poets and writers who have inmortalized the legend since colonial times. The principal local activity happens on Sundays at the Artisan's Market, located in the center of town. Here residents offer visitors wooden furniture, garden items, plants, flowers, delicious vegetables, tubers and fruits, handicrafts in ceramic and sopestone which is only found here, as well as a big selection of curios and mementoes for loved ones. El Valle de Anton protects beautiful endemic species like the famous golden frogs and square trees that are unique to this part of the world. Before returning to the city, on the outskirts of El Valle a visit to the excellent zoo and a spectacular greenhouse is recommended where you will be able to admire the region's many plant species.
